The onset of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century initiated a process of environmental degradation on the planet whose consequences are well known: climate change, deforestation, loss of biodiversity, mass extinction of species, plastic waste, air pollution and a host of other ecological impacts. Today, with a greater global awareness than ever before of the damage that our technology has inflicted on the planet, human beings are trying to extract from this same technological development the tools that can help us to right our wrongs. In this United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), we examine some of the most prominent rewilding, reforestation and geoengineering projects that seek to heal those wounds.
