Cayetano López

Cayetano López in Senior Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid since 1983 where he received his Doctorate. He studied Physics at the Complutense University of Madrid and at the University of Paris VII. He is Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Buenos Aires. He has worked at CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifi que) and at CERN (Centre Européen de la Recherche Nucléaire) in fields related to unified theories of elemental particles and nuclear transmutation for energy production and the elimination of radioactive residues. As well as numerous articles in specialized reviews and contributions on the spread of scientific knowledge, science, and energy policies in newspapers and philosophy magazines, he is the author of two books for the general public, El ogro rehabilitado (El País- Aguilar, 1995) and Universo sin fin (Taurus, 1999), as well as the textbook, Física de los procesos biológicos (Ariel, 2004). He has been Rector at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Vice-President of the Board of CERN and Director of the Scientific Park of Madrid. Since September 2004, he is Adjunct General Director of CIEMAT (Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research), where he directs the Energy Department.
