Chimpanzees and bonobos are close cousins that rival each other as being our closest relatives, according to a comparison of the genomes of the three species. But despite this great genetic similarity, there is much that differentiates us from each of them. In fact, in some respects we may be more similar to gorillas or orangutans. Some experts have even suggested that we should admit some of these species to the select club of Homo, the genus we share with extinct relatives such as Neanderthals or erectus.
