How many earth-like planets are in the universe?

In February 2014, the existence of 715 new planets outside our Solar System was announced. If that sounds like business as usual to you think again. Those 715 new planets are more than 40% of all the exoplanets we have discovered since we started looking for them back in 1995. In other words, we just realized our little neighborhood within the universe is almost twice as crowded. The announcement comes as the Kepler space telescope, which made the discovery of the new planets, finishes its official mission. In this infographic you can learn how Kepler became the best exoplanet hunter in History.
